Eliminate Fat That Diet and Exercise Can’t Deal With
Sometimes, diet and exercise are not enough to get rid of those stubborn fatty areas in your body and you need a treatment like CoolSculpting. As a relatively painless yet natural procedure that directly targets fatty areas, it’s easy to see why so many people are turning to CoolSculpting in Bellevue, Washington when traditional methods of fat loss do not produce the desired results.
This simple CoolSculpting procedure uses controlled cooling to target and “freeze” fat cells, erasing up to 25% of these in the first treatment.
Each application will eliminate more and more fat from your body, using the natural process of apoptosis-programmed cell death. Your problem areas will appear smoother and natural.
With each successive treatment, you can lose between 20% and 25% of the fat cells remaining in the targeted area. The fat doesn’t return, either. Once the frozen cells die and are eliminated by the body’s natural processes, you will have fewer fat cells. Your body has a finite number of fat cells, so that means those fat cells will never be able to grow back in the treated areas.
These select areas are normally around the midsection, chin (double chin), arms, or thighs, which often conventional methods of fat loss can’t seem to help burn off.

When Will I See Results?
However, it’s not a miracle cure for fatloss; it’s merely a tool to help enhance the hard work resulting from diet and exercise. Because CoolSculpting is not a cure-all, we recommend that you have the procedure done if you are within several pounds of your target weight. It’s also important to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. If you regain weight after the procedure, you do not produce new fat cells. It merely means that your fat cells have become bigger.
Some individuals see results almost immediately, but most clients will see fat reduction in the area between eight and 12 weeks post procedure. For some areas, we recommend two to three treatments for optimal results.
It’s important to remember that CoolSculpting does not rid the body of visceral fat. That’s the type that dieting and exercise will eliminate and is a prime reason why we recommend that you be within a few pounds of your target weight before having the procedure.

Patient Review
I can honestly say that Dr. Sidhu is a top notch Doctor! He's so kind, personable, and knowledgeable on every subject. I would recommend anybody go to him for medical or cosmetic needs. Anything that I need outside of plastic surgery he does for me. I've now received 5 different areas of CoolSculpting done by his amazing and skilled esthetician Suzanne. It was pain free, relaxing, and SO effective. I got my inner thighs done and then two weeks later went back for my lower stomach. The results were so great that I went back 6 weeks later to get the upper part of my stomach done as well. ~ Carol P.
CoolSculpting is designed to help individuals who, despite dieting and exercise, struggle with stubborn body fat in areas such as inner thighs, outer thighs, upper arms, flank, the abdomen, or the chin. The procedure kills fat cells and the body removes them permanently.
However, CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss solution for people who are obese. In the case of obesity, we recommend weight loss first -- either with a weight loss program or bariatric procedure and finally CoolSculpting if you wish.
We really need to sit down with you for a complementary consultation to determine the most appropriate program for you, also bearing in mind your budget. The cost of CoolSculpting will depend upon the area to be treated and number of applications you will need to get rid of the unwanted fat. We do recommend treating the same area twice for the best results. Depending upon the number of applications you need, the per applicator cost will vary from $500 to $750.
When the treatment device is applied, you may feel some pulling as the suction begins, along with intense cold. This is the device working on those stubborn fat cells. After that you will feel comfortable enough to read, work on your laptop or even take a snooze.
If we decide together that the CoolSculpting procedure is a good option for you, the length of your CoolSculpting treatment will vary according to the number of areas being treated. Each treatment will take between 35-40 minutes.
Once your CoolSculpting treatment is complete, the treated area will be massaged, and you will be able to return to your normal daily activities right away. Want to schedule a session over your lunch break? You can do that, no problem.
Yes, CoolSculpting is safe. Numerous studies, and a great track record for quality results, has given us comfort in offering this treatment to our patients. This is a low-risk, fat-reduction procedure that has been FDA cleared. CoolSculpting is now the number one non-surgical fat reduction procedure, with millions of procedures having been performed worldwide.
Many patients begin to see changes as soon as three weeks following their treatment. The most dramatic results will show after three months, though you will likely continue to see additional progress for up to 6 months following your treatment. Of course, individual results will vary. We will be available to you for follow-up and to answer any questions you may have.

General Questions About CoolSculpting from RealSelf
Q: I'm interested in coolsculpting but not sure it really works. Can you share how it actually works and what most people see in terms of results?
A: It works by freezing the fat cells and just like any other technology it depends on good patient selection. You will hear lot of people say it didn't work but most of the time they were not good candidates to start with. So if you are active and have stable weight and have pinchable fat it will work. With each treatment for about 35 minutes 20-25% of fat cells are eliminated over 3 months period by process called apoptosis.
Q: I'm a woman 52 about 20 lbs overweight and exercise vigorously (road cycling, mountains and flats ~40-100 miles a week). Would I be able to do coolsculping or should I lose that 20 lbs first?
A: Great question and its difficult to answer without actual examination of the area of concern but in general if you think you are overweight its best to loose the weight first and then proceed with CoolSculpting.
Q: Would insurance companies cover CoolSculpting if it helped sleep apnea?
A: Great question but unfortunately CoolSculpting would not be covered by any insurance at this time.
Q: How cold do you have to freeze the fat with cool Machine for it to really freeze those cells like -10 below? And will it " burn" the skin being that cold?
A: Great question. The freeze points for the two tissues are different so with CoolSculpting the temperature goes low enough to kill the fat cells but not affect the skin. In addition the skin is protected with the gel pad too. The skin will show some redness from suction but doesn't burn.
Q: Would it be helpful to wear compression hose following to alleviate swelling?
A: Compression after CoolSculpting is more for personal comfort. It will not affect the results overall but wearing tight garments for few days will help with the discomfort if any. Our clients do tell us that it feels better with compression garment. Good luck, you chose an excellent treatment for unwanted fat.
Q: How do I know if my therapist is qualified in CoolSculpting?
A: Very good question. Now there are certain certifications that you can ask for like if the practice and the provider are CoolSculpting university certified or not. But if I am a consumer I want to know the practice's own pre and post results. One can receive several certifications and still be a very poor provider just like you see with all professionals - degrees do not equal to the experience.
Q: I had Cool Sculpting three times. The second time I had it, it actually had the opposite effect - even though I didn't gain any weight. Still, since the first procedure worked, so I thought I'd try a third procedure. It worked for about six months, but my fat has returned in the same area where I've had the procedure done three times - lower abdomen. What the heck is going on? Is this just a temporary fix?
A: With each application of CoolSculpting 20-25% of fat cells are permanently removed and they don't come back. If you end up gaining weight then the remaining fat cells will get bigger but number doesn't increase. It will be best to go back to the practice and review the areas of concern along with the pre and post pictures. Paradoxical hyperplasia can occur but is very rare.
Q: I had CoolSculpting a month ago, no visible results that I can see but I'm not worried and know to wait the full 90 days. I am just wondering/curious if patients see faster results if they have a faster metabolism? I have a very slow metabolism, so does that mean the likelihood of me seeing results before the 90 days is slim to none? Again, I know to wait, I'm just curious.
A: Metabolism doesn't impact the CoolSculpting results as long as you are maintaining the body weight. I do agree that some people show early results and non scientific reason would be the density of fat in the area. Give it full 8-12 weeks to see the results. Good luck.
Q: Hi! I got coolsculpting done yesterday. I am height/weight proportionate (5'5 and 125 pounds). Is it okay to start dieting right now? What would happen if I were to lose 10 pounds over the next two months and then gain it right back?
A: Weight loss after CoolSculpting will enhance your results overall. I would recommend following a diet where you can maintain a good weight rather than fluctuating too much. Excessive weight gain can negatively impact the results of CoolSculpting that's why its not a weight loss procedure nut a fat loss procedure. When you gain weight after CoolSculpting its the remaining fat cells that will get bigger so still less number of fat cells getting bigger rather than the 100% of them.
Q: When is the best time to schedule a second CoolSculpt session for the abdomen?
A: There is some confusion over the ideal timing but in our clinic if someone wants another application in same area we do it after 8 weeks unless someone wants to see the complete results after first treatment and in that case we wait for full 12 weeks. I think anywhere from 8-12 weeks is good and I know some clinics go at 6 weeks too.
Q: The weight seems to stay on. Besides a tummy tuck what other options do I have? I’ve seen and read all kinds of stories where the belly fat is hanging and cool sculpting, smart lipo, or lipo have worked. I understand every situation is different, but I’m willing and READY for a new me
A: Congratulations on weight loss and keep up the good work. For your area of concern the coolsculpting will get rid of the fay but I think you will not be completely satisfied since there is skin laxity too so probably surgical option is better. The best recommendation would be after the assessment of the area of concern.
Q: I am a skinny 22 year old male who has always had a certain amount of fat underneath my chin (see pictures). This hides my jawline and gives me a weak chin and I want to do something about it. I have had a consultation to do CoolSculpting, and I've been told that one treatment would be enough. However I'm concerned by statements that I've seen on this site that CoolSculpting only achieves 20-25% fat reduction. That makes me think I wouldn't see much change with one treatment.
A: To give you the best answer the area of concern-chin in your case has to be examined to see if that's fat or laxity and if its fat then each application will get rid of 20-25% fat cells and is very effective. Best is to have a consultation.
Q: Would getting rid of extra water weight before a session help freeze more fat cells?
A: Getting rid of extra water weight will not change anything as far as the number of fat cells are eliminated with each application. Getting as close as possible to your ideal body weight will help get the best results though.
Q: Hello Doctors, initially when Coolsculpting was release a lot of surgeons were saying it was just marketing and ineffective. A few more questions I have; how does the frozen fat get removed from the body? How is that safe? If you gain weight will the treated area get bigger than before? Thank you.
A: Very interesting observation. So there are few reasons: one the procedure works and is able to get rid of 20-25% of fat cells with each treatment. Second there is no down time and everyone has busy schedules with work and home life so no down time helps. Third there is no need of any anesthesia and there are no incisions. Fourth it gives more uniform results. With CoolSculpting the fat cells rupture and then they are engulfed by the macrophages and eliminated naturally. Its the natural process of elimination of degraded product so no its not harmful. As far as weight gain is concerned one can see the change in that area. When one gains weight its because the fat cells swell up (number of fat cells are same) so after CoolSculpting it will be less number of fat cells getting bigger.
Q: I had bloodwork done in the ER (unrelated to CoolSculpting) 4 weeks post treatment for chin (1 application). Bloodwork shows elevated C-reactive protein, elevated sed rate, high LDH as well as high protein, low neutrophils and high lymphocytes. They sent me to an oncologist who wants to do a bone marrow biopsy. Could the CoolSculpting have caused these abnormal results?
A: One application of CoolSculpting for chin should not affect the blood work specially the LDL and Protein level. C-reactive protein and sed rate are inflammatory markers and are very non-specific but 4 weeks after treatment is outside the window. One simple way is to repeat the test and see which way its trending but overall unlikely to be CoolSculpting related.
CoolSculpting Vs Other Treatments from RealSelf
Q: I am looking to eliminate my belly fat through either CoolSculpting, Lipo, or the BBL procedure. My most desired result is to have a flat belly (which has increased in size over time) to accentuate my natural curve and to be more proportionate to my legs which aren’t that thick. A BBL would be my ultimate dream to add projection to my butt and put my excess fat to use if I could find the right financing option as cost is a concern of mine.
A: Thank you for submitting the pics. Any of the above treatment can help you take care of the fat. There are few advantages of one over the other and specially if you don't want any down time for sure CoolSculpting is a better option. You might need more sessions (will be evaluated at the consults) depending upon your final goal. Best would be to discuss in person during a consultation.
Q: With aging I’ve lost definition in my chin/jaw and would like to do something before it gets worse. Would coolsculpting or Kybella be suitable to give me back a defined profile?
A: Great question and best way will be to have a consultation to see if its fat or too much laxity. Now keep in mind the latest data for CoolSculpting in chin area does suggest improvement in laxity too. So if you don't want any needles or bruising then CoolSculpting is better option.
Q: Hello, I am trying to get a refined jaw law and get rid of my minor double chin. I’m wondering if Kybella or CoolSculpting would be better in my case?
A: The best recommendation would be after examining the area of concern to see if it can be pinched or not. CoolSculpting has no down time, less or no bruising and pain less compared to Kybella.
Q: I have quite a bit of fat in my mid section. What especially bothers me are my hips. Given that traditional liposuction involves downtime as well as costs more im wondering if i could benefit from i-lipo or cool sculpting that require no downtime or would i just be wasting my money on those procedures.
A: Great pics to give us an idea. So CoolSculpting will work great for those areas and there is no down time and the treatments are also 35 minutes now. My only recommendation would be to be prepared for a second round of treatment for wow results but you can stage them. Good luck.
Q: Please tell me how much things would cost as well and if i can get procedures done of im taking pain meds like morphine. I have been disabled for several years and im in a wheelchair. I cant really exercise much and I need to get rid of the fat around my face, legs, thighs and stomach. What exactly can be done? I may also get a breast lift as one of my breasts is sagging and i burned my nipple and it rose up so now it looks like 2 nipples on one that i need removed and cellulite removal. Thanks
A: All the areas can be addressed with CoolSculpting. The exact answer would depend on examination and if good for CoolSculpting then you would have no down time and no incisions but if not a good CoolSculpting candidate then would recommend liposuction. Thanks.
Q: I am wanting to get some type of fat removing procedure done. What are the options and opinions on whats best? Cool sculpting, liposuction etc also what questions should i ask when i go to my consult.
A: If you are looking for non surgical option then CoolSculpting will be ideal for you. Please be prepared that you will need more than one application in each area to get the desired end result. For CoolSculpting at consult you will be informed of the number of applications needed and of course look at their own pre and post pics.
Q: Which has better (results) Sculpsure or CoolSculpting?
A: Great question and its a question we face everyday not just from the clients but also from the industry and colleagues. Our preference is CoolSculpting because it has a longer track record and more studies to prove it works effectively and on top of that we support it with our own data at our clinic and good patient feedback. We do discuss both technologies with our clients because we want to make sure our clients make an educated decision but personally if I have to pick one for myself I would go with CoolSculpting.
Q: What is the best procedure for non-invasive fat reduction in the abdominal area (love-handles, muffin top)? I am looking into Zerona, Cool-sculpting, and Air-sculpting. Is there any other procedures aside from the 3 listed, worth looking into? What is important to me is recovery time, I am hoping for limited down-time. I am leaning towards cool-sculpting but not fond of having to wait 4 to 6 months to see the results. Any doctors in the Houston area? Thank you!
A: The other technique is sculpsure but the one with most studies and with track record for non surgical fat removal is CoolSculpting. It works excellent at all the areas you have mentioned. You can go to work right after treatment and in fact can do your work while getting treated. We make our clients comfortable and they can jump on to their Ipad or laptop and do their work while getting treated. Formal consultation is must though.
Q: I have a small pocket of stubborn fat around my belly button, & lower abdomen area. Several PS Doctors stated I don't have enough skin to stretch for a FULL tummy tuck. One Dr. suggested 1 treatment of CoolSculpting, & the other Dr. gave me the options of a MINI tummy tuck, Ultrasonic Assisted Lipo, CoolSculpting. I have opted out of the MINI tummy tuck. I read there are risk with the UAL such as blood clots, nerve damage, burning etc. Which one will give me a better result on my small fatty area?
A: Every procedure has pros and cons. One has to be the right candidate for the procedure to be successful. Without pictures its very hard to say but overall CoolSculpting is very safe and there is no down time if you are working and have a busy life. The best thing is to get another consult or send some pictures.
Q: I had gastric sleeve, I'm needing skin removal on my stomach/arms. And maybe legs not sure but I'm on medicade will it pay for cool sculping I know it will pay for skin removal please let me know asap id rather do that than more sureries thank you.
A: Great question. CoolSculpting works great for the stubborn fat, but for loose skin it will not do anything. Also medicaid will not pay for CoolSculpting.
Questions About CoolSculpting & Body Parts from Real Self
Q: I have type 2 diabetes. My A1C fluctuates between 5.3 and 6.4. I walk about 25 miles per week and go to the gym 3 times a week. I am not overweight by much, but I have belly fat that I cannot seem to get rid of. I have heard that type 2 diabetes is directly related to belly fat, so would cool sculpting benefit me in my quest to win the fight with my A1C?
A: Great question and there is no proven co-relation of improvement of HBA1c with CoolSculpting. Now if you are close to your ideal body weight and want to get rid of unwanted fat CoolSculpting will work great as long as the fat is not intra abdominal. In our experience loosing that extra bulge has motivated people to spend more time on fitness to keep the diabetes under check.
Q: I'm in good health and look a lot younger than my age. My issue is that I was always petite (4'10-1/2", averaged around 90-95 lbs. most of my adult life). I quit smoking in my mid-40's and shortly thereafter went through menopause. During this time and thereafter I gained weight and fat, mainly in my stomach and waist area. Would cool sculpting and then a tummy tuck be my best action plan? I want to fit better in my clothes.
A: The best option would be after the consultation but if its excess fat then CoolSculpting is an excellent option and if there is excess skin then the tummy tuck is better option but will have to examine the area of concern to best answer your question.
Q: I gained some of that weight back and would like to try a less invasive treatment along with my fitness /diet. Thanks!
A: Yes, CoolSculpting can still be done with prior liposuction. The best way is to consult an experienced CoolSculpting clinic and see if the fat under the skin is good one for CoolSculpting.
Q: I lost a bunch of weight, and I can't seem to lose any on my mons pubis. When looking at my mons at a profile angle, it's a huge bulge! I have a lot of fat there that just won't go. I've considered lipo, but would love to have the option for a non-invasive procedure. Is coolsculpting be something I should consider?
A: Congratulations on weight loss. Yes it can be used on the mons pubis area but the best advice would be after doing a consultation to feel the fat in the area since coolsculpting will work only on fat.
Q: Does cool contouring help flatten your stomach ? I exercises 4 four days a week, eats healthy, however I am still struggling to achieve a flat stomach , thank you
A: Great question. If you are in the ideal body weight range and have stubborn abdominal bulge that you want to get rid of, CoolSculpting is ideal for that. It works by freezing 20-25% of the fat cells with each application and there is no down time. The best is to have a consultation to access the area of concern so that the provider can give you the details of how many and what kind of applicators to use. We use the new applicators that are much more efficient and comfortable.
Q: The problem with this radical hysterectomy scar is that it looks like a shirt buttoned up incorrectly. One side is lower than the other. The scar is from 1987. I am diabetic and have a few circulation issues in my legs as well. Also, I have a genetic clotting disorder.
A: Its absolutely possible to do CoolSculpting with hysterectomy scar. In this case its absolutely necessary to do the consultation so the person doing CoolSculpting can examine the area and plan the applicator placement according to your scar. Good luck.
Q: The doctor told me I should come back in 6 weeks for a second treatment. That seems too soon, I keep hearing 8-12 weeks in between here.
A: Great question. I think every practice has their own time intervals but on an average I recommend waiting at least 8 weeks after first application, before the second application in same area is applied and sometimes patients want to wait full 12 weeks before the second application.
Q: Can CoolSculpting help remove lipomas on abdomen and arms? (photo)
A: Unfortunately CoolSculpting will not do much for lipomas since the fat in lipomas is too dense and enclosed. Surgical excision is the best way to approach this.
Q: So I was curious I have the basics of where coolsculpting is done on the lower body. However is it possible to do the front sides of the legs and beside the knees? I wanted to have slimming done on my lower half however id prefer not to go invasive if possible.
A: CoolSculpting can be performed on the legs for sure. The only way to give you the confirmatory answer is after the consultation where we will discuss the areas of concern and come up with a plan to address that. We consider the concerned areas as a cylinder and approach from several sides to get the best result.
Q: I measure every week with no change today is my 6th week ---at least the soreness has lessened some--still same "belly"-due for second procedure aug. 16th if i can handle pain--what should i get for after --rub on cream???? should i have it done again on 16th-past 6 weeks have been awful--HELP.
A: Great question. Six weeks is too early to see the results but things are happening underneath since you have some signs and symptoms. After 8 weeks its perfectly fine to proceed with second application but if you want to wait longer that's fine too. For the pain and discomfort, in our experience topical creams really don't help but wearing tight garments to provide external support does work. Good luck.
Q: Had a tummy tuck a few years back with lipo and literally have almost no fat on my stomach area. Can CoolScupting be used over other large areas of the body like the butt to get the 25% fat cell reduction? If I go back for a second procedure on the same areas, does the additional anticipated fat reduction of 20-25% still occur or is it a lessor amount?
A: With that height I recommend first getting into the ideal body weight range and that could involve exercise or medical weight loss program if the standard efforts have not produced the results. Once you get to the ideal body weight then FOR SURE these areas can be addressed with CoolSculpting. As far as second application in same area is concerned the percentage of fat cells lost is just an estimate but in my experience I tell my patients more than percent fat cells lost its more about how you feel. So with first application clothes will fit better (sometimes that's an encouragement to go to the gym and do work outs) and after the second application you will get the WOW effect. Hope this helps.
Q: Got Coolsculpting on my love handles (after having it on upper abs). I did lose fat, but it left me with a dent on each side that caused the sides to bulge out. Was told these are my oblique muscles, not fat (I do work out). They smooth out somewhat when I lift my arms, and are less noticeable from a side view. Why would my obliques stick out only at the bottom like this? When I pinch them, there doesn't seem to be a big chunk of fat, it seems to be more skin, but I'm not sure. Thank you.
A: Great question and concern. To give you the full explanation one has to do the exam and see if that is fat or the muscle. But its common to see in that sequence of treatment that with with each application the fat is lost and now its the in between area that still has fat and looks like its bulging. Best thing is to get an assessment and if its fat you will need another application in that area. Good luck.
Q: I’ve been told a goo candidate for Coolsculpting. Ive already asked question about Coolsculpting but forgot to ask.....Will Coolsculpting cause my skin to be loose?
A: Great question and best way to determine that would be in person consultation to see the laxity of your skin but looking at your pics I don't think you will have any issues with laxity. CoolSculpting removes fat by slow gradual process and there is an inflammatory stage so the skin does get time to adapt to the fat lost resulting in no significant skin laxity.
Q: Can I get CoolSculpting on a fat-filled hernia?
A:Absolutely no for CoolSculpting on fat filled hernia. First the hernia needs to be fixed and then CoolSculpting can be done in that area.
Surgery & CoolSculpting from RealSelf
Q: I have a big double chin. Can I get CoolSculpting for this?
A: In order to say you are a good candidate for CoolSculpting you will need an in person consultation to access the area and determine if its excess fat or just laxity. In general thyroidectomy is not a contraindication for CoolSculpting.
Q: Can I get CoolSculpting if I have metal fusions in my back?
A: Back surgeries and metal in back is not a contraindication for CoolSculpting. The best option is to get a consultation to see if you are a good candidate.
Q: How soon can you get Coolsculpting after childbirth? I had c-section. Can I get my upper stomach done?
A: Waiting for about 6 months after child birth is adequate to let the body go back to non pregnancy state before doing coolsculpting. You can do coolsculpting even if you has C-section.
After CoolSculpting from RealSelf
Q: It has been 9 weeks since my first treatment. On one side only, I had intense pain and swelling, and the area was hard as a rock. Nine weeks out, the swelling has gone down, but I have lumps under the skin that feel like two strands of pearls. They are tender, but not painful, and are easily felt with a light touch to the skin. Will this go away, or should I be concerned? Some of the lumps are fairly large, but as I said, feel like a strand of pearls.
A: Sorry to hear about the lumps after CoolSculpting. The area has to be examined to give the exact reasoning but reading through the explanation it should get better with time. 9 weeks is still early, Wait for full 12 weeks and if its still not better then you should discuss this with the provider who performed the CoolSculpting. It could just be as simple as inflammatory process.
Q: Hi! I wrote a while back and now again writing as I haven't seen any results post cool sculpting procedure. It's been 4 weeks now and I certainly feel the same or bloated or swollen although I do not feel pain. The numbness seem to be there. My diet and exercise is the same or rather improved from before. I am not crazy heavy either. I am 5'9 and about 68 kilograms. I am just wondering when will the numbness and fade and when will even see a slight result?
A: All that is expected after CoolSculpting - feeling swollen and some numbness. It will all get better over time and the results should start showing up by week 8.
Q: It has been two weeks since I had my CoolSculpting treatment, and so far I have avoided using ibuprofen as I have read that anti inflammatories have a negative impact on CoolSculpting results. However, I would like to know whether I can start re-using CBD oil? That is an anti-inflammatory too, but is it as powerful as ibuprofen and would therefore have a negative impact on my results as well?
A: Great question and its nice to avoid the anti inflammatory meds post CoolSculpting to not inhibit the inflammation but we don't have any data to see how it impacts the results. I typically recommend avoiding anti-inflammatory meds if possible but if you absolutely need it for other reasons my patients have done that too with good results. After two weeks the use of topical oils should be no problem at all.
Q: If I exercise 5 or 6 days a week and eat well after coolsculpting, could that decrease the chance of getting PAH?
A: PAH after CoolSculpting is very rare and there is no single identifiable cause. Overall good diet and exercise is good to maintain the results of CoolSculpting but for PAH since we don't know the exact cause its hard to say if good diet or exercise will prevent that completely. The good thing is its very rare.
Q: I experienced a "Thermal Event" on my right flank. I felt a burning sensation 13 min into the treatment, then the machine turned off as a safety measure. I had redness as a result. The provider said we can re-treat in 24 hours since it overheated my skin. We re-treated in 3 days. It has been 2 weeks and I have these marks, looks like burn marks! They're very noticeable, brown and the exact shape of the hand piece. How do I treat the marks and make them fade? Will it disappear? I'm very worried.
A: Very sorry to hear that you had an adverse event. First of all its very rare to have this kind of event so I am not sure if you are going to get a strong recommendation. In my practice I would recommend giving some more time and let the inflammation settle down completely - avoid sun exposure, SPF and then re-evaluate in 4-6 weeks. Hopefully this will continue to fade.
Q: I had my one and only coolsculpting session on my abdomen. It was pretty painful during the first few minutes of the procedure. I thought I was going to faint, but didn't. Now I'm noticing that I'm suddenly getting dizzy for no reason every now and then. I rarely ever got dizzy before I had the procedure, unless I was sick. Is this normal?
A: Pain during the initial phase of treatment is common and is less with newer applicators. Feeling of fainting during that same period can happen. After the treatment fainting spells are not heard of. I recommend discussing that with your provider and could be two totally different issues.
Q: I bruised and blistered immediately after the treatment. The blisters are getting bigger. How do I treat this?
A: Bruising can happen but blisters are not common. Recommend going back and discussing that with the provider that did the CoolSculpting for you. Gel used during CoolSculpting is supposed to prevent the blistering. In our busy practice we have never seen blistering.
Q: I have the gold max applicator 6 total (3 then 3 months later another round) 2 applicators were faced in a V shape then the 3rd was directly across the top. The V was in hopes to overlap the bottom twice) I did this 2 times 3 months apart. I started my treatment last November 2016 I have lost 1 pound. All comments are welcome. I feel like I don't see any results but maybe I'm just not looking at the photos in the right way. Please be honest.
A: Great question and also a great opportunity to learn that there are limitations with each procedure. To be very honest there is a difference in the pre and post pics and CoolSculpting has done its worth. There is clearly a difference in the upper abdomen. I can also see from your eye that the results are subtle and here's the reason for that: you either need a lot of applications to give you a wow effect or you go for surgical intervention: liosuction/tummytuck etc. Your areas of concern have to be looked at like a cylinder and if you don't want surgical intervention then you will need several applications to get you to where you will like it. The best way to decide would be a consultation where we can determine if the fat is intra-abdominal or extra. Hope this helps.
Q: I've had 7 coolsculpting sessions on the same area (stomach) over 2 years. I gained 2 kg in last 10 months . No shape or size difference has ever been measured or seen. Nurse explained "the body produces more fat cells in your stomach when you gain weight". I read you had a set number of cells which increased in size? She said coolsculpting won't work if you don't maintain a healthy diet and exercise regime. And that because I've gained weight I have more cells just replacing the dead ones.
A: Once the fat cells are destroyed they don't grow back up. Its the remaining cells that will get bigger and smaller as you gain weight or loose weight. Weight gain can offset the results of CoolSculpting but that would be by the residual fat cells getting bigger as you gained weight. If you had so many applications in same area it might be worth getting a consultation from a different provider to see if you are a good candidate or not.
Q: I had coolsculpting done on my flanks yesterday. My right side is only numb where the applicator was but my left side is numb across my hip and glute and down my thigh. When i received the massage after the treatment that left side had terrible nerve pain shooing down my leg when she massaged the lower part. Should I be worried??
A: It's common to have these symptoms and will start resolving in few days. You will observe that it feels numb but when you touch that area is little tender. There is a feeling of swelling too. We at our clinic recommend wearing tight clothing first few weeks post procedure.
Q: I'm 2 weeks post op coolsculpting. Areas are reddened and very hot to touch... is this normal? I'm experiencing all other side effects swelling itching mild discomfort... the redness and hotness of skin worries me? I haven't read anyone complaining of this adverse effect. Do I need a antibiotic?
A: I recommend you see the provider to get it evaluated. Redness can persist sometime if you were bruised after the treatment but area feeling hot is usually not the case. Now the extreme case would be if you are having excessive response in the form of inflammation, but only way to determine is by physical examination to rule out any infection (very unlikely). Swelling/itching and mild discomfort are all in the range of symptoms patients feel after treatment. Good luck.
Questions About the Machine or Procedure from RealSelf
Q: I treated lower abs and both flanks a week ago. Tried to treat upper ab that day, got a thermal event. Went back 3 days later, treated one inner thigh, got a thermal event on upper ab and other inner thigh. Went back yesterday, another thermal event on outer thigh, inner thigh, and upper ab. The room the machine is in is hot. There is a red thermometer that flashes when this happens. Then it turns to yellow, then disappears. Is the issue with the machine? Or is it my full body tattoo?
A: Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I am not sure what you mean by thermal event that you mentioned. The applicators itself should not get hot -what that means is your skin at the application site should never be hot. Now if the machine is getting hot it usually will stop the treatment and with error will show on the machine. Full body tattoos have nothing to do with this since CoolSculpting applicators don't sense color at all. I would just be upfront and ask the person doing your CoolSculpting whats going on. At our practice we discuss all the technical issues with the clients if there are any so they stay informed. Good luck.
Q: I had CoolSculpting done, on my stomach and flanks, are Elase in Salt Lake City. I keep seeing people say sessions should last 60 minutes per treated area, but I only got 30 minutes on each area when they did mine. Is there a reason for this? Will I still get good results?
A: The new applicators are faster and more efficient and you would need treatment for 35 minutes instead of full 60 mins with old applicators.
Q: Hi I had a coolsculpting treatment recently and the equipment disconnected at 33 mins . The provider said it was ok and I had a full treatment. I am concerned I dis not get the full 35 mins. Does it make a difference? Please advise . Should I ask for a repeat session? Regards.
A: Great question and this can happen at any clinic. Usually at our practice if the treatment has lasted for 90% of the duration or more its good. Anything less than that we offer a complimentary treatment. In your case it was more than 90% duration so should be good. 3 months will tell.
Q: Would Coolsculpting get rid of or change the amount of fat cells on your body?
A: CoolSculpting or cryolipolysis is a technique where 20-25% of fat cells are permanently eliminated from the area treated with each application. Once those fat cells are removed the remaining fat cells will get bigger or smaller as one gains or looses weight. Its a great technology to get rid of stubborn fat that doesn't go with exercise and diet.
Q: Based on my pictures, i would like to know what kind of applicator is best suited for my abdominal area and how many cycles in 1 session do i need to achieve a flat tummy? Thanks again for reading.
A: Great question since you want to be prepared before you start the treatment. The best and most accurate way to estimate the number and type of applicators and how many in each area you will need is by a consultation. The area of concern has to FELT by the person doing the consult to give you the accurate estimate. Pictures are great to give you a rough estimate but its never accurate. Sometimes we have to target surrounding areas too to give you the desirable result. I would recommend find some good cool sculpting practice in area and go for a consultation since most of them are complimentary. Always ask for pre and post pictures too. Good luck.
Questions About the CoolSculpting Mini from RealSelf
Q: Hi there. I have had two consultations for cool sculpting for my double chin. One recommended one applicator for the central chin area, but another recommended 2: one on each side of the jaw. The latter being double the price. Is it worth it? Or should I just get one done? Which is the general more common practice please?
A: The best recommendation comes after examining the area but more often we recommend 2 applicators with central overlap to get the best results.
Q: I am in my 30s and always had a little excess fat under the chin from i was a teen. This has never left me even with losing weight. What sort of success rate has this treatment and is it really as effective as lipo surgery.
A: The best way to determine if you a CoolSculpting candidate or not is by examination of the area of concern but if you are a good candidate then CoolSculpting is very successful in chin area.
Q: I am considering doing CoolSculpting on my neck or jawline - perhaps 2 treatments - and combining it with Ultherapy. I am hoping the combination can improve a "double chin" that is caused by excess fat and poor skin laxity. What kind of schedule would you recommend to reduce potential conflicts and optimize the results?
A: I recommend starting with CoolSculpting to get rid of the fat as much as possible and then do ultherapy for tightening and lifting effect. I would wait 3 months after CoolSculpting to get the maximum benefit.
Q: All doctors posts seem to say patients will see results after first treatment at three to four week mark. I'm at 10 weeks not seeing any change? Three consults told me I'm perfect candidate. I went with local medspa that has done many of them and good reputation for their other services. But I see no change...
A: Three to four week mark is still early to say that CoolSculpting didn't work. It will continue to get better but typically 2 applications are needed to get good results and (from your photo) there appears to be some laxity in the skin too so adding ultherapy might enhance the results.
Q: Hello everyone ! I have done chin injection one week ago and now I'm planing to get either CoolSculpting or kybella for my double chin . I'm worried if those treatment might have effect the filler on my chin ? Thank You.
A: Either of the two -- cool mini or kybella will not affect the filler in the chin. The filler is deeper than the fat where cool mini and kybella is going to work.
Q: Post 3 sessions of coolsculptmini and total of nearly 6=months from 1st and nearly two from last. 1 and 2 sessions were overlapped 3 was right under chin. 3 consults at 3 different places told me I was the perfect candidate. Totally upset wasted money and feel scammed! surgery in end would have cost same. spent over $4,000. Apparently non evasive isn’t worth it. I don’t see many actual successful chin treatments. Can a reputable doctor look at my photo and give honest sound advice?
A: Very sorry to hear about your experience. CoolSculpting is excellent way to get rid of the double chin. The honest opinion will be to get another evaluation and see if its fat or laxity in skin in the chin area. CoolSculpting will work if there is fat but not if there is laxity. In addition to that sometimes 20% fat loss is not that obvious in the pics and some clients need more than one treatment to see the effect. We accommodate those rare instances at our clinic to add another session and see if that's the case.
